Day in the Life of a Marketing Lead

As a returning staff member of the Sugar Pine Literary Magazine, I already had an idea of what I wanted to do within the class this semester. Last year, I pitched the idea of a TikTok for the Sugar Pine, and the previous advisor, Ms. Ramirez allowed me to take charge of starting and running it. Through that, I was able to build connections with my fellow students and classmates on the staff. 

This year, under the guidance of advisor Mr. Gomez and Editor in Chief Dominic Anaya Gulaya, a Marketing Team was built within Sugar Pine– a group to directly work with promotions, social media, and anything else that comes with marketing the literary magazine. I was given the opportunity to lead this team, and with the aid of Claudia Steen, Victoria Maradiaga, and Noemi Costa, we’ve been able to work together to create Instagram Reels and Tiktok videos, posts for the Instagram feed, and flyers to get posted around the school. 

With this group of talented students, being a leader of the Marketing Team was a breeze, and for me, a day of work as a leader is very low stress. I know that coming into class each day will be simple and hassle free. If you’re interested in what a day in the life of what a marketing lead does, I’ve prepared something like a day (but really more of a class) in the life of a marketing and social media lead.

2:45 PM - Entering the class and placing my bag down. Usually I will go up to Mr. Gomez and debrief on ideas and thoughts I have about the daily agenda.

2:55 PM - Listening to the daily agenda and prepping some ideas.

3:10 PM - Talking with the team and making a plan of what to do with the class.

3:15-3:50 PM - Work on whatever we planned for the rest of the block.

4:10 PM - Discuss with Mr. Gomez the plan for the 8th block.

4:20-5:00 PM - Finish up any work needed and schedule any posts for afterschool if needed.

I hope you enjoyed and learned a little bit into the process of being a marketing lead and what a day in the life of being on the marketing team looks like. It varies with every class and sometimes, what we do changes based on where we are in the publishing timeline, but just know anytime you see any TikTok or Instagram Post, Reel, or Story, it came from the wonderful team that works diligently to bring you news and updates on the Sugar Pine!
