Submit Your Work
SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED!
As of February 14th, 2025, we are officially closed for submissions. Thank you all so much for the work you shared with us in preparation for Sugar Pine Lit’s Volume VIII! We’re amazed by all the wonderful work we’ve received and can’t wait to bring this incredible new issue to all of you. If you have any questions or concerns about this issue, feel free to email us at sugarpinesubmissions@gmail.com.
Submissions for Volume IX will likely open with the start of the new school year, so make sure to watch out for new information on our Instagram, fliers around campus, and this site as well!
If you’re interested in submitting to Sugar Pine Lit, you first and foremost must be a CSArts-SGV student, but there are quite a few more requirements than that. In the actual submission form, there’s much more specific information, but here’s the basic breakdown:
Maximum of 5 submissions per person
There’s a chance that we’ll accept a piece on the condition that you make certain edits. If this is the case, we'll contact you using your provided information, and if you don't respond, the piece will not be accepted.
There’s a chance that your piece(s) will be accepted to our Online Journal as opposed to our physical yearly issue, but you’re of course not bound to having it published there. You can also ask for it to be published on the online journal if you’d prefer that!
No AI created or assisted submissions are allowed
Unless you have specific thematic reasoning to not, PLEASE TITLE YOUR PIECE.
Art Submission Information:
All forms of experimental or out there art are accepted! Alongside paintings, drawings, and photography, we can also accept collages, comics, and more!
Must be submitted in the form of a JPEG or PNG
If submitting a non-digital drawing/painting, scans are preferred, but photographs of the art will be accepted as long as it is a clear photo on a white background. WE MAY REQUEST FOR YOU TO RETAKE THE PHOTOGRAPH (or for one of our editors to do so). If you don't respond to this request, your piece will not be accepted.
Your can elect for your art to be considered as a candidate for cover art! There will be a question on the submission form asking if you’d like to opt into this.
No water-marks (signatures are fine)
Must include a title and the artist's name in the name of the file
Writing Submission Information:
As always, we accept prose, poetry, essays, erasure/blackout poetry, songs, screenplays, and more! Get creative and experimental.
We also accept pieces in languages other than English as long as a translation is also provided-- we will publish them side by side if accepted.
Similarly, you are free to submit translations of other people's work into English, as translation is art in its own right. If you choose to do this, please provide the original piece and its title and author alongside your translation of it.
For all writing but scripts, you must submit a link to a google doc or word doc, and general access must be "Anyone with the link" and "Editor."
Word limit for prose: 2,500 words max.
Line limit for poetry: 150 lines max.
Page limit for script: 5-10 pages in script format.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at sugarpinesubmissions@gmail.com!
